JOLIBOIS CALLS ON THE GOVERNMENT TO ENSURE SUSTAINABILITY AND LONGEVITY OF NORTEP-NORPAC

OTTAWA – On Thursday, NDP MP Georgina Jolibois called on the Liberal government to ensure that post-secondary programs NORTEP-NORPAC in La Ronge receive funding that strengthens the vision, sustainability and high quality that northerners seek in their education services.

“This week dozens of students and faculty members gathered in La Ronge and Regina to protest the cut to the NORTEP-NORPAC programs in northern Saskatchewan,” said Jolibois. “The cuts from the provincial government are in addition to previous cuts from the conservative federal government.”

This valuable program trains many Northerners including First Nations and Métis in Northern Saskatchewan.

“Graduates from this program go on to be leaders in our communities and help build bright futures for Northern people,” added Jolibois. “Liberals promised to invest $50 million in First Nations post-secondary education but their budget failed to deliver. They need to honour their promise and commit to funding for NORTEP-NORPAC immediately.”
