NDP’S MP GEORGINA JOLIBOIS RAISES CONCERNS OVER WILDFIRES MANAGEMENT

LA LOCHE — NDP MP Georgina Jolibois (Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River) wants to make sure that the Federal government Firefighting priorities are in line with the magnitude and strength of the  wildfires in her riding. In a letter to Public Safety minister Ralph Goodale, MP Jolibois requested a meeting to address the concerns she is hearing from people on the ground.

“I have been in contact with Chief Beatty from Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and we are concerned about the three forest fires near Pelican Narrows. We believe that more firefighters need to be dispatched to put out the fire.” said MP Jolibois.

To date, over 110,000 hectares have burned. Wildfires have forced residents out of the northern Saskatchewan community of Pelican Narrows. Evacuees are in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

“I want the federal and provincial governments to work together on this matter. There is potential to bring in more fire fighters to put down the fire. Resources must be invested accordingly considering the magnitude of the situation” added MP Jolibois.
