NDP MP Georgina Jolibois calls on Liberals to Release Funds for Women's Shelter in Northern Saskatchewan

OTTAWA – Today, NDP Critic for Indigenous Services Georgina Jolibois, called on the Liberals to release the funds they promised for a women’s shelter run by Northern Saskatchewan's Athabasca Health Authority (AHA).
“Women in my riding are at a far greater risk of violence, and without this funding the Liberals are letting down women across the North,” said Jolibois. “Why would the Liberals promise funding, and then hold onto it and leave so many women and children at risk?”
Despite actions taken by the AHA to meet funding requirements, the federal government has refused to release dedicated funding for a women’s shelter that would serve the communities of Black Lake, Fond du Lac, Stony Rapids, Uranium City, and Camsell Portage. Without the funds, the AHA won’t be able to meet their March 2019 deadline to complete the shelter.
